GKN Aerospace (GKN) Faces Hazardous Chemical Tank Incident
A malfunctioning 34,000-gallon tank at GKN Aerospace (GKN) in Garden Grove, California, has raised concerns over a potential chemical leak or explosion. The chemical being stored is methyl methacrylate, which could lead to the release of up to 7,000 gallons (26,500 liters) of toxic material if ruptured. The temperature in the tank was reported to have increased from 77°F (25°C) to 90°F (32°C) at a rate of approximately 1 degree per hour. Evacuation orders remain in place for tens of thousands of residents as California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Orange County.
