Bank of England Shortlists 18 Animals for Future Banknotes
Eighteen animals, birds, and insects have been shortlisted by the Bank of England for potential inclusion on future banknotes, allowing public participation in the decision-making process until July 3. The shortlisted species include the Atlantic puffin, brown hare, and bottlenose dolphin among others. The public may select up to two favorites from each of three categories: mammals, birds, and amphibians/insects. Future notes will still feature a portrait of the monarch, but notable historical figures will not appear on the reverse side as of the next series.

The US Treasury Department announced that Donald Trump's signature will appear on US banknotes, making him the first sitting president to do so. This measure is intended to commemorate America's 250th anniversary in 2026. The first $100 bills featuring Trump's signature will be printed in June, replacing signatures of former Treasury officials. The change marks a deviation from a tradition, established in 1861, that included only Treasury officials' signatures on banknotes.
