India-Pakistan Water Dispute Threatens Indus Treaty Security

Rising tensions between India and Pakistan are ignited by water security concerns regarding the Indus Water Treaty, which governs river usage from the Indus basin. Pakistan's defense minister warned on June 5 that water could be a cause for war if their national interests are threatened. India's foreign ministry stated that the treaty remains suspended until Pakistan ceases cross-border terrorism. Also, India's water resources minister emphasized efforts to halt water flow to Pakistan, significantly impacting Pakistan's economy given that over 90% of its crops rely on these rivers, with all of its hydroelectric plants located in the basin.
