Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Increase Charges by £320m for Expansion
Heathrow Airport has received approval from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to increase charges to airlines by up to £320 million to cover early expenses for its third runway project. This will result in an increment of around 15p added to ticket prices in 2028, potentially rising to 30p in subsequent years. Additionally, the Arora Group's Heathrow West will be allowed to recover £4.1 million in costs. The CAA stated that safeguards will ensure cost recovery is justified, which is vital for consumers when considering overall travel expenses.

UK CAA Reports Double Risk from Lithium Batteries in Flights
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) warns of increased fire risks from lithium batteries in aircraft hold luggage ahead of the busy summer holiday travel period. The number of devices found in checked bags nearly doubled from 316 incidents in 2024 to 643 in 2025. Reports of overheating or malfunctioning devices also rose from 123 to 206 during the same timeframe. Passengers are reminded to keep power banks and other lithium-powered devices in cabin luggage, with only two power banks allowed per person.
