UK CAA Reports Double Risk from Lithium Batteries in Flights
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) warns of increased fire risks from lithium batteries in aircraft hold luggage ahead of the busy summer holiday travel period. The number of devices found in checked bags nearly doubled from 316 incidents in 2024 to 643 in 2025. Reports of overheating or malfunctioning devices also rose from 123 to 206 during the same timeframe. Passengers are reminded to keep power banks and other lithium-powered devices in cabin luggage, with only two power banks allowed per person.
