Amsterdam Bans Meat and Fossil Fuel Ads Effectively from May 1

Amsterdam has become the first capital city to ban public advertisements for meat and fossil fuel products, effective May 1. The ban primarily affects ads for beef burgers, petrol cars, and airlines, which were previously visible on billboards and public transport. While meat-related ads constituted about 0.1% of the local advertising market, fossil fuel-related products accounted for approximately 4%. This move aligns with the city’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2050 and to halve local meat consumption during the same period.
