Robert Mueller, the former special counsel who investigated Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, has died at 81. His family announced his passing on March 20, 2026. Mueller's 448-page report issued in April 2019 highlighted significant contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia but did not find evidence of a criminal conspiracy. His investigations led to criminal charges against six associates of former President Donald Trump. Mueller was previously the second-longest-serving director of the FBI, holding the position for 12 years.
