xAI Faces NAACP Lawsuit Over 27 Turbines in Memphis Area

The NAACP filed a lawsuit against xAI (formerly owned by SpaceX), claiming violations of the Clean Air Act regarding the installation of 27 natural gas-burning turbines in Southaven, Mississippi. These turbines were allegedly operated without necessary permits from August to December 2025. The suit seeks to halt operations, enforce necessary pollution controls, and impose civil penalties. Additionally, xAI plans to construct a larger power plant in Southaven that will have 41 turbines. These actions are in response to concerns over health risks for local residents, particularly among the Black population in the area.
