B&M Retail Ltd fined £2m for food hygiene failings in Birmingham

B&M Retail Ltd has been fined £2 million due to serious food hygiene violations at three Birmingham stores. The company faced prosecution from Birmingham City Council after inspections revealed rodent infestations, including mouse droppings near children's toys and contaminated food packaging. The fines were imposed following guilty pleas at Birmingham Magistrates' Court, with a sentencing hearing on July 13. The firm was also ordered to cover prosecution costs of £18,104 and a £2,000 victim surcharge, to be paid within 28 days.
