The Department of Defense (DOD) confirmed it is expanding the use of Google's Gemini AI model for classified projects, following the dismissal of Anthropic due to supply chain risks. The Pentagon's reliance on Google's technology aims to save thousands of man hours weekly, enhancing efficiency in military operations. A DOD spokesperson stated that Anthropic is currently excluded from DOD contracts while continuing to work with other government agencies. Additionally, over 700 Google employees signed a letter opposing the use of AI for classified functions, highlighting internal concerns within the company.
